OUGD504: Design For Print - Primary Research On Potato Printing

by Roxxie Blackham on Tuesday 12 November 2013

Potato printing is quite a simple process.

I will need to consider the fact that children won't be able to carve the potatoes themselves, as it will be dangerous to give them a knife to cut with! This will need to be emphasised in the book.

You can produce lots of simple shapes that can be printed on top of one another to create another shape - for example the triangle was printed over itself to create a tree in my experimentation!

The type of stock that you print on also affects the print. I printed onto some kitchen roll at the end to create the spottier prints.

Other types of fruit and vegetables could be used to create prints - mushrooms could be cut in half and used to print mushroom shapes onto the paper. Carrots could create smaller circles than potatoes. This could be included on the same page to give an idea of what they could do with children without introducing knives (except for when the adult cuts the vegetable / fruit in half!)
